The self advocacy movement

Self advocacy is a disability rights movement that started in the 1960’s.

A rights movement is when people around the world work together to:

  • speak up about shared human rights issues

  • take action and

  • make change.

The self advocacy movement is led by and for people with disability.

  • holding events that brings self advocates together to talk about relevant issues and share knowledge and skills

  • helping self advocates have a say about changing laws, policies and services.

  • making educational resources and creating training for other people like workers and allies

  • holding social events and celebrations

  • sharing information online

  • promoting PCE and PCE’s mission at events and conferences.
